Temporomandibular joint and headaches
Effective addition to a holistic treatment concept
One of the most common triggers is stress, which is usually associated with excessive demands, worries and anxiety. These emotional stresses lead to excessive muscle tension in central areas (head, back) and particularly often in the area of the superficial and deep masticatory muscles (masseter muscle, temporalis muscle, medial and lateral pterygoid muscles).
Increased muscle tension in the jaw area can lead to overloading and pain in the temporomandibular joint. Other phenomena of stress processing, such as teeth grinding and clenching, increase the muscle tension, creating a vicious circle that is constantly intensifying. This mainly occurs at night (during sleep) when those affected unconsciously clench their teeth or clench their jaws tightly.
If conventional approaches (physiotherapy, special dental splints, etc.) do not provide sufficient relief, medication should be considered: Botulinum toxin, also known as BOTOX®, is a highly effective treatment to relieve tension-related TMJ and headaches. Targeted injections of botulinum toxin into the affected jaw muscles can temporarily relax them (duration of effect: approx. 4-6 months). This helps to significantly reduce the associated pain and enable a better quality of life. In our experience, in the majority of cases, no further injections are necessary after just one treatment phase, as the circulatory mechanisms of muscle activation have normalized.
However, it should be emphasized that this type of treatment is only an essential part of the comprehensive approach to pain relief. A holistic approach that includes stress management, relaxation techniques and physical therapy where appropriate is still recommended to achieve long-term results.
Botox®
Temporomandibular joint pain
This is usually caused by excessive tension in the chewing muscles. Botolinum toxin (BTX, Botox®) can help. With targeted micro-injections, the doctor relaxes your chewing muscles and thus alleviates your symptoms effectively and in the long term.
Sleep disorder
Snoring therapy
Do you or your partner suffer from loud snoring? With a tooth-supported splint, this can very probably be a thing of the past. The splint is worn at night and effectively prevents the soft tissue in the throat from slackening, which otherwise narrows the airway and leads to snoring. We support you on the way to restful sleep for you and your partner.
Implants
for your dentures
An implant is an artificial tooth root that grows firmly into the jawbone. Crowns, bridges and dentures can be attached to it - and a perfectly planned and securely fixed denture leads to a better quality of life.
